“Like Fireflies” from Jesse Thomas, 2008. The 1st vocal sample is Anna, the 2nd is St.Pete. As with most of my songs, Anna helped me write the lyrics. The live drum part was recorded after the fact by St.Pete. The drummer is Corey McAfferty (Cookies & Dirt, Sweatpants Money) and although I wasn’t there when he recorded his parts I think he did a great job, especially in the end solo section, he really takes the lead and elevates the song greatly. The lyrics are

Every time i talk to you we just repeat I miss you miss you

Lamentations aspirations bands we’re gonna start someday

We could name ourselves after the greatest Talking Heads record

Clean up all the cobwebs and reconnect the power chords

And we’d have some hang time pour some drinks and twist a lime

Time to try to feel fine time to simply think about

Fucking up the jam session listening in on her confessions

Twisted by the weekend pay the rent and be somewhere

Road dreams no time to wonder about

This uncanny feeling like deja vu

Not sorry and all bets are off

And I’ve got no worries as we burn like fireflies.
