I saw a bunch of bananas on the ground yesterday, completely brown and frozen. One was separated from the rest and kind of off to the side, as if he broke free and struggled a few inches before collapsing. It made me wonder at the life cycle of those bananas, to think of where they were planted and grown and packaged and shipped, via plane and truck, to grocery store, to die a frozen death on the salt-choked streets of my Chicago neighborhood.
This is what winter is like in Chicago. It’s the anti-tropics, yo.
